Our brains change
in subtle ways
as we grow up.

Now, a new AI model called AgeDiffuse is revealing insights.

AgeDiffuse can predict someone's 'brain age' from an MRI scan. Essentially, it estimates how old yor brain looks compared to your real age.

Brain AGe Gap

A large gap in either direction indicates possible abnormalities.

The model was trained on tens of thousands of scans from children and teenagers. So it learned signatures of maturation invisible to the naked eye.

Accuracy

AgeDiffuse's brain age predictions are remarkably accurate - within about 3 years of a child's real age.

Growth Patterns

What's more, the AI brain ages match expected growth patterns.

As key brain structures develop in adolescence, the model notes parallel changes. This suggests it captures biologically meaningful trajectories.

FUTURE WORK

This could help monitor how a child’s brain age changes over time.

In the future, the team aims to connect brain age estimates to real cognitive test outcomes. This would reveal whether abnormal brain age gaps indeed reflect issues like lagging IQ or memory.
